South Africa’s Cardio-Oncology Centre of Excellence at Netcare uMhlanga Hospital has had its certification renewed for another three years by the International Cardio-Oncology Society.
The centre protects cancer patients’ hearts during treatment, saving lives and improving care.
Since opening in 2019, Dr Trishun YT Singh and his team have trained clinicians across the country, building local expertise in this field.
The recognition highlights South African skill, teamwork, and innovation in healthcare, giving patients and communities hope.
Netcare uMhlanga Hospital general manager, Thea Janse van Rensburg, has praised Dr Singh and the team for maintaining consistent excellence in such a specialised medical field.

SA sprinter Karabo Letebele gets scholarship with US university

One of South Africa’s fastest rising sprinters, Karabo Letebele, will continue his athletics career in the United States.
He signed a four-year scholarship with the University of Arkansas, choosing it over offers from USC, UCLA, Arizona, and Oregon.
Last year, Letebele beat African record holder Ferdinand Omanyala at Athletics South Africa’s Grand Prix.
He will follow in the footsteps of top collegiate sprinter Jordan Anthony while competing and training in the US:

South Africa's Women's Hockey team wins big against Canada

The South African women’s hockey team has opened its 2026 season with three strong results against Canada in a five-match test series in Pretoria.
South Africa took the first match 5–0, with Olympian Thati Zulu scoring the opener after a decisive pass from Ntsopa Mokoena.
The second test ended 0–0, with debut caps for Nomsa Mzizi and Richele Norval and Stephanie Botha marking her 50th appearance.
South Africa won the third match 2–0, supported by a solid defensive display and a senior debut from goalkeeper Jana Marie Botha.
