Joburg Film Festivalannounces 2026 programme

The Joburg Film Festival has announced its 2026 programme, celebrating African and global storytelling.
The festival taking place in March across multiple Johannesburg venues, will screen more than 60 films selected from 691 submissions spanning Africa, Europe, the Americas, Asia and the Middle East.
Audiences can attend premieres, filmmaker Q&As, panel discussions and masterclasses, connecting with creators and industry professionals.
Tickets, priced from R50 to R200, went on sale on 30 January.

UP Professor appointed to UN’s Scientific Panel

University of Pretoria professor Vukosi Marivate has been appointed to the UN’s Independent International Scientific Panel on Artificial Intelligence.
He joins 40 experts from around the world, chosen for their work in AI and related fields.
The UN Secretary-General recommended the experts for the panel.
The South African Government has congratulated Marivate for representing the country on this international scientific platform.

4 Ekurhuleni tennis players to tour the UK

Omphile Sekhute, Stephen Marè, Nkazimulo Sigasa, and Katherine Henderson have been selected for the South Africa Schools tennis team and will tour the United Kingdom later this year.
The players earned their spots through strong performances at the interprovincial tournaments in Pretoria and Bloemfontein, where they stood out among the country’s most promising young players.
During the UK tour, the team will visit Lawn Tennis Association clubs and watch top players compete at Wimbledon.
