Community crafters gathered at Reflection Pizza Bar in Johannesburg for a Valentine’s-themed knitting drive hosted by volunteers from 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day.
Known as the KnitWits, the group spent the day crocheting and knitting pink, red and white squares that will be stitched together into blankets.
The handmade blankets will first be displayed at a community showcase before being donated to people in need.
Organisers say the event combines creativity with giving back, while bringing residents together around a shared cause

Adapted from Modikwe Dikobe’s Marabi Dance and directed by Arthur Molepo, the production features live piano, singing, dance, and a star-studded intergenerational cast, bringing the rich heritage of South African jazz and theatre to life

UP Professor Appointed to UN AI Panel

A University of Pretoria professor has been selected to serve on a new United Nations panel on artificial intelligence.
Professor Vukosi Marivate will join 40 experts on the United Nations’ Independent International Scientific Panel on Artificial Intelligence, which will provide independent scientific advice on the development and regulation of AI.
Members were appointed following recommendations by Secretary-General António Guterres after a global selection process.
The South African Government has welcomed the appointment, saying it strengthens South Africa’s voice in international technology policy.
