Marabi continues at the Market Theatre for its 50th anniversary

For its 50th anniversary, the Market Theatre is continuing its run of the classic musical Marabi, which will run until 15 February.
Set in 1930s Doornfontein, Johannesburg, the story follows July Mabongo and his family, first-generation black migrants navigating ancestral duty, poverty, and the challenges of urban life.
Adapted from Modikwe Dikobe’s Marabi Dance and directed by Arthur Molepo, the production features live piano, singing, dance, and a star-studded intergenerational cast, bringing the rich heritage of South African jazz and theatre to life

Ten-year-old raises thousands for Uitenhage SPCA

Ten-year-old Riley van Eck, a Grade 5 pupil at Grey Junior School, has helped raise R10,600 for the Uitenhage SPCA through a school fundraising campaign.
Riley produced a short video appeal with his principal, Grant Butler, which has received over 55,000 views online. The funds will support the SPCA in continuing its work caring for animals during its search for a new home.
The organisation thanked Riley for his contribution, saying it will help provide food and care for animals and praised his courage and determination.
