Today is World Radio Day, being celebrated under the theme, Radio and Artificial Intelligence: AI is a tool, not a voice.
This day recognises the significant role that radio has played for over a century as a medium for informing, entertaining and connecting communities throughout the world.
UNESCO says this year’s theme highlights that when used ethically and responsibly to support professional judgement, creativity and public service values, AI can become a partner in strengthening audience trust.

10-year-old Riley van Eck saves SPCA

Ten-year-old Riley van Eck of Grey Junior School acted to help the Uitenhage SPCA after it was ordered to vacate its 50-year-old property.
Riley emailed his principal, filmed a short video appeal, and shared it online, raising R10,600 through voucher sales in just five days.
The video received more than 55,000 views and provided funds to support the SPCA’s relocation and care for animals.
The SPCA has thanked Riley for his kindness, courage and a huge heart.
Riley’s initiative shows how one young person can make a tangible difference for animals and the community.
