South Africa’s most accomplished women leaders recently gathered at the Sandton Convention Centre for the 22nd Standard Bank Top Women Awards, a prestigious celebration of excellence and impact.
The event honoured trailblazers from business, public service and the social impact sector, celebrating women whose innovation, resilience and leadership continue to shape the country for the better.
The gathering honoured over 150 finalists across 14 categories, showcasing the breadth of women’s leadership driving change across the country.

2025 National Spelling Bee Finals held at Sun City

South Africa’s top junior and senior spellers competed in the 2025 National Spelling Bee Finals on Thursday at the Sun City Resort in the North West.
The finalists advanced through local competitions, district eliminations and provincial championships.
Now in its 15th year, the South African National Spelling Bee, is a joint programme of the A Better Africa Foundation and the Department of Basic Education, in partnership with the National Education Collaboration Trust and literacy organisations including Nal’ibali.
The CEO of the South African Spelling Bee, Roger Dickinson, says the competition awards national colours for spelling promoting reading and literacy among learners.

WBHO appointed for Cape Winelands Airport expansion

The Cape Winelands Airport has announced the appointment of the construction company WBHO as the main contractor for its eight-billion-rand expansion programme, marking a major step in creating South Africa’s next-generation aviation hub.
The project will include a new boutique terminal, upgraded runways, enhanced cargo and logistics operations and a modernised general aviation precinct.
The airport’s Deon Cloete says the development could sustain over 100-thousand jobs in its initial 20 years of operation and boost tourism and investment in the Western Cape
