Mother and Daughter Create App to Help During Fires

An Edenvale mother and daughter have developed an app to help residents and emergency responders quickly find the nearest fire hydrant.
Jackie and Shannon Momsen were inspired by a fire in their area last year, when finding a nearby hydrant proved difficult.
Their Find My Hydrant app allows users to upload the locations of hydrants, with GPS coordinates helping to build an accurate map for emergencies.
The project has already mapped 328 hydrants in Edenvale, with hopes that communities across South Africa will eventually add hydrants in their own areas.

Free Surgery Changes Lives of 16 Women

Sixteen women from across South Africa have received free breast reduction surgery through the Dr Viwe Nogaga Foundation and Nelson Mandela Academic Hospital in Mthatha.
The surgeries were performed for women living with symptomatic breast hypertrophy, a condition that can cause chronic pain and make everyday activities difficult.
The Women’s Month initiative is helping to restore comfort, mobility and confidence, giving the women an opportunity to enjoy a better quality of life.
The foundation’s founder, Dr Viwe Nogaga, says he is excited to be part of the initiative.

Weez from The Grace Factory spotted Margaret pushing her bicycle with her baby strapped to her back and decided to stop and offer help.
She returned with a pack filled with baby clothes, blankets and hygiene essentials before helping Margaret find the address of a possible job opportunity.
Margaret had cycled about 25 kilometres to find the location, hoping the job could help her build a better future for her daughter.
