Gerda Steyn wins seventh straight Two Oceans Marathon title

The queen of the road, Gerda Steyn has made history by winning her seventh consecutive Two Oceans Marathon women’s title in a time of 3 hours 27 minutes and 43 seconds.
Steyn extended her unbeaten streak in the 56-kilometre ultra since 2018 at the Cape Town race.
The men’s race was won by Arthur Jantjies in a time of three hours nine minutes, securing 380-thousand-rand after a strong final surge over the 56-kilometre course.
Meanwhile, Kenya's Felix Masai and Lavinia Haitope of Namibia won the men’s and women’s half marathon which took place yesterday.

Hamba Bamba Funda runs crochet skills workshop

The Hamba Bamba Funda centre in White City, Soweto, ran a crocheting skills workshop for mothers from Kliptown.
The session is part of a six-part programme with Pieter van der Westhuizen and the Flower Foundation.
Participants learned crocheting and received starter kits.
The programme aims to build skills that can be used to make and sell products for income.

Table Mountain nominated for Africa’s top tourist attraction award

Table Mountain in Cape Town has been nominated for Africa’s Leading Tourist Attraction at the 2026 World Travel Awards.
Voting opened on 30 March 2026 and runs until 17 July, with the winner decided by public vote.
The attraction has previously won the category five times between 2014 and 2022 and is listed as one of the New7Wonders of Nature.
The nomination highlights its role as a major tourist site in South Africa.

Dakar 2026 Academy to train 400 young sports professionals

The Dakar 2026 Training Academy will train more than 400 young people from African National Olympic Committees in sports event management.
The programme is supported by Olympic Solidarity and will cover travel and accommodation for selected participants.
Candidates will complete a two-week training course in Dakar before working with the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games organising teams.
The programme runs ahead of the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Senegal, which will be the first Olympic event held in Africa.
