18 young aspiring doctors will pursue their medical studies in Cuba through the Nelson Mandela Fidel Castro Medical Training Programme.
The students were selected from a competitive pool of more than 2 400 applicants across all five districts in Gauteng.

The programme provides academically deserving young people from disadvantaged backgrounds with an opportunity to pursue careers in the medical field.
463 students have graduated through the programme since its inception and are now serving in public healthcare facilities across the province.
The new cohort will join the province’s healthcare workforce and contribute to primary and community-based healthcare upon completion of their studies.

The Gauteng MEC for Education, Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Lebogang Maile, launched the Clapham Sports School of Specialisation in Queenswood, in Pretoria, marking the province's 40th school of specialisation.
Maile says the School integrates sport, academics, practical skills and new areas of opportunity to create well-rounded individuals.
