The Gauteng MEC for Education, Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Lebogang Maile, launched the Clapham Sports School of Specialisation in Queenswood, in Pretoria, marking the province's 40th school of specialisation.
Maile says the School integrates sport, academics, practical skills and new areas of opportunity to create well-rounded individuals.
The Minister says the department is committed to strengthening specialised education.

7 South African women researchers have been awarded the Professor Sherly Motaung fellowships at the 2026 South African women in Science Awards.
Their research covers biodiversity, tax Justice, infectious disease diagnostics, forestry, Agriculture, genetics and astronomy.

The awards recognise and reward excellence in science, technology and innovation by South African women and celebrate outstanding researchers and scientists whose achievements inspire the next generation of women and girls to pursue careers in Science Technology and Innovation.

The Fellowships have been renamed in honour of the late Prof. Shirley Keolebogile Motaung, who is one of South Africa's most distinguished women scientists and academics.

The Presidency is calling on South Africans to nominate individuals who have made exceptional contributions to their communities and the nation for National Orders.
The awards are the country’s highest honours, that recognise outstanding achievements in areas including science, culture, sport and community service.

The National Orders are bestowed by the President to recognise outstanding achievement, nation-building, service and contributions to South Africa. Nominations close on Wednesday the 30th of September.
