Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane will today give an update on the online admissions placements for Grades 1 and 8 learners for the 2026 academic year.
Online applications for both grades closed at the end of August, 2025.

Senior leaders from the International Finance Corporation and the Banking Association of South Africa on Wednesday gathered to discuss Africa’s financial future.
This took place at the Radisson Red Hotel, in Rosebank.
IFC regional director Claudia Conceição highlighted South African banks’ potential to lead both domestically and across Africa, especially in energy, infrastructure, and sustainable finance.
She outlined the IFC’s mission to unlock private sector investment, to create jobs and support economic growth.

Nelson Mandela Bay approves budget for beachfront areas and resorts upgrades

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Council in the Eastern Cape has approved a budget of ten million rand to upgrade infrastructure at beachfront areas and its resorts ahead of the summer season.
The metro aims to restore the blue flag status of some of its beaches, to attract more visitors and boost the local economy.
The projects include ablution facilities, electrical infrastructure, and lighting to curb crime in the evenings.

Gunna headlines 2026 Milk and Cookies Festival

US rapper Gunna will headline Milk and Cookies Festival in Cape Town and Joburg.
The multi-platinum hip-hop sensation will perform at Kenilworth Racecourse in Cape Town on 2 January 2026 with South African DJ Virgo Deep.
DJ Kent will join Gunna at the Nasrec Expo Centre in Johannesburg on 10 January 2026.
The festival will also include the Milk and Cookies Music Week which includes educational workshops and panels for aspiring music writers and producers.
