Bryanston men and boys go purple for cancer awareness
Story 1
Thousands of men and boys across Gauteng took part in the Hollard Daredevil Run, donning purple Speedos to raise awareness for prostate and testicular cancer.
Bryanston High School led the local effort, with learners, teachers, and alumni joining runners from Dainfern College and King David Linksfield to flood streets in support of early detection.
The event raised around R1 million, funding local outreach programs, free PSA testing, and educational workshops across Gauteng.
Organisers say the Daredevil Run combines fun with a life-saving message, encouraging conversations about men’s health and making testing more accessible.

Western Cape secures sanctuary for endangered Moonlight Mountain Toadlet
Story 2
The Western Cape has officially declared the 800-hectare Mount David Nature Reserve, providing a permanent home for the endangered Moonlight Mountain Toadlet and a Critically Endangered Erica species.
The reserve, historically known as Diepgat, is the result of 17 years of restoration by landowner Antony van Hoogstraten, who cleared alien vegetation and revived wetlands and fynbos.
The site’s ecological importance was confirmed when a healthy breeding population of the elusive toadlet was discovered in 2020, alongside rare plant species.
Minister Anton Bredell says the declaration strengthens the province’s biodiversity network and supports vital ecological services such as clean water and climate regulation.
