FoodForward SA nominated for 2026 Earthshot Prize

FoodForward SA is honoured to be nominated for the 2026 Earthshot Prize, celebrating its work reducing food waste and fighting hunger.
The organisation rescues surplus food from farmers, manufacturers, and retailers and distributes it to nearly 1 million people daily through a network of 2,500 community groups across South Africa.
By rescuing edible food from landfills, FoodForward SA protects the environment while helping communities thrive.
The Earthshot Prize, founded by Prince William, awards five global winners about R20 million each, with the next ceremony set for November 2026 in India.

State Theatre gets 33 nominations at Naledi Theatre Awards

The South African State Theatre has received 33 nominations at the 21st Annual Naledi Theatre Awards for productions staged in 2025.
The Fatherland earned nominations for Best Musical, Best Director and Best Lead Performances, while productions like What Have You Done With The Garden? and Trans/Vaal were recognised in Dance, Physical Theatre and Cutting Edge categories.
Technical categories, including lighting, set, sound and choreography, also featured nominations for the theatre’s productions.
The awards ceremony will take place on 23 March 2026 at the State Theatre in Pretoria.

V&A Waterfront donates R200,000 to Santa Shoebox Project

The Santa Shoebox Project has welcomed the 200-thousand-rand donation from the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town.
Part of the money was raised through the V&A Waterfront’s December 2025 festive gift-wrapping initiative.
Santa Shoebox Project CEO, Deb Zelezniak, says the funds will help construct ten reading corners in under-resourced early childhood development centres across Cape Town and surrounding areas:

SPAR Grand Prix celebrates 18th anniversary this year

To celebrate its 18th anniversary, the SPAR Grand Prix has raised total prize money to over R1.9 million.
The series includes five 10km races across Cape Town, Durban, Tshwane, and Gqeberha, with prizes for overall winners, age categories, and top South African finishers.
Since 2008, the event has helped South African women compete and gain national recognition, with international athletes joining from 2019 to raise competition.
Three-time winner Glenrose Xaba returns this year aiming to become the first athlete to win the series four times.
