Eldorado Park community joins Walkathon to promote recycling

Community members in Eldorado Park participated in a walkathon organised by Empire Bus and the City of Johannesburg to raise awareness about illegal dumping and promote recycling.
Stakeholders from Pick it Up, Purpose Recycling and local groups engaged residents on ways to protect the environment.
The campaign forms part of the Breed Better Cities initiative, which encourages recycling and supports local recycling projects that create jobs.
The youth group Sikhulisa Intsha Yethu showed that recycling helps the environment and supports young people.

State Theatre gets 33 nominations at Naledi Theatre Awards

The South African State Theatre has received 33 nominations at the 21st Annual Naledi Theatre Awards for productions staged in 2025.
The Fatherland earned nominations for Best Musical, Best Director and Best Lead Performances, while productions like What Have You Done With The Garden? and Trans/Vaal were recognised in Dance, Physical Theatre and Cutting Edge categories.
Technical categories, including lighting, set, sound and choreography, also featured nominations for the theatre’s productions.
The awards ceremony will take place on 23 March 2026 at the State Theatre in Pretoria.

SA Rhinos walks away with Bronze at international tournament

The South African Women’s Ice Hockey Team, known as the Rhinos, won a bronze medal at an international tournament after defeating Israel 3–0 in their final match.
Inge Albertyn scored two goals and Michayla Venter added another as South Africa recorded 36 shots on goal.
Goalkeeper Soné Geldenhuys made 20 saves from 21 attempts, while Veronica Lechtanski was named the team’s most valuable player.
During the tournament, Kelly Jamieson also reached the 50 Caps Club, marking 50 appearances for South Africa at World Championship level.

All Blacks to tour SAf with four Springboks matches

The All Blacks are set for a six-week tour of South Africa later this year, including four matches against the Springboks in Johannesburg, Cape Town, and, for the first time, the USA.
