South African learners win international science medals

South African learners have won gold and silver medals at the International Mathematics, Science and Engineering Fair held in Turkey.
Graeme College learner Joshua Danilatos won first place and a gold medal in the biology category for research on how rising water temperatures affect local fish species after catch-and-release events.
Another team member won first place and a gold medal in engineering for a rocket motor design project, while a third South African participant earned second place and a silver medal in mathematics for research on prime numbers.
The learners represented the country alongside other finalists from across the world.

Hotel Verde donates to Western Cape charities

Hotel Verde Cape Town Airport has launched the Room-to-Give initiative, donating R10 from every night booking to four Western Cape charities.
The first beneficiaries are Childline Western Cape, the Cape of Good Hope SPCA, People Opposing Women Abuse and the Learn to Read Daycare Centre in Hermanus.
The hotel will distribute 41-thouand-850-rand in the first quarter, with funds generated from bookings at no extra cost to guests.
Guests can also make additional donations through the hotel’s website or rewards programme.

Ranked at number eleven, the Mother City is celebrated for its homegrown flavours, with the Cape Malay curry receiving a special mention.

For a second year in a row, Bangkok in Thailand is number two, offering an unmatched street food culture.
Mexico City is third, followed by London and Barcelona in Spain, wrapping up the top five.

NASA announces Artemis Three moon crew

NASA has announced the four-person crew for Artemis Three, which will test lunar landers for future missions to land on the moon.
The astronauts, who will launch into space next year, are commander, Randy Bresnik, pilot Luca Parmitano, and mission specialists Andre Douglas and Frank Rubio.
This comes two months after Artemis Two’s record-breaking trip around the moon, which surpassed the distance record of Apollo 13.
NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman says the crew will also test rendezvous and docking capabilities:
