Smile Foundation performs 173 child surgeries

The Smile Foundation says 173 children across South Africa have received corrective surgery through its Smile Week Programme in the past six months.
The surgeries treated conditions including cleft lips, cleft palates, facial paralysis and severe burn scarring.
One of the beneficiaries, 12-year-old Eugene, underwent facial reanimation surgery after being born with Moebius Syndrome, a condition that prevented him from showing facial expressions.
The programme is funded by donors and supported by specialist medical teams and volunteers.

Gauteng entrepreneur wins R1 million prize

Gauteng entrepreneur Kamogelo Selepe has won the R1 million top prize in the Mr Price Foundation’s Bindzu Youth Fund competition.
Selepe founded ArcaneEdge, an AI marketing business that helps companies test campaigns before spending advertising money, and grew its revenue by 486% during the programme.
The national competition received 1,692 applications, with 10 finalists pitching for funding after months of training and mentorship.
Western Cape’s Khaya Burwana and Gauteng’s Makatu Tshivhula placed second and third, receiving R250,000 and R150,000 for their farming and candle businesses.

Growthpoint donates winter uniforms in Tembisa

Growthpoint Properties and Threads for iKasi Foundation have donated 50 full winter school uniforms to learners at Zitikeni Secondary School in Tembisa.
The donation took place on 29 May 2026 and forms part of Growthpoint’s employee volunteer programme, which allows staff to take part in community projects.
Each uniform set includes a jersey, jacket, trousers, shirt, shoes, socks and a winter beanie for learners at the school.
The initiative marks the second year of the partnership, which supports more than 1,800 learners at Zitikeni Secondary School.
