Digital Vouchers Give New Hope To Homeless
Story 1
Cape Town residents can now support the homelessness through a digital voucher system that replaces cash donations with practical assistance. The Mi-change initiative, run by U-turn Homeless Ministries and MES, allows the public to purchase a R15 voucher by scanning a SnapScan QR code linked to a registered participant. The vouchers can be redeemed for essential items such as food and basic necessities while also connecting recipients with support services. Because the vouchers are digital, they cannot be sold or exchanged for cash, helping ensure donations are used for their intended purpose. Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis has welcomed the initiative, saying it offers an innovative way for residents to support those in need.
