Campaign Targets Drunk Driving in Joburg
Aware.org and the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) have launched the Drive Sober, Stay Alive campaign. This is a six-month initiative aimed at reducing alcohol-related crashes and making Johannesburg's roads safer. Driving under the influence arrests rose from 8 287 in 2023 to 9 898 in 2025, with the highest concentration occurring between 6pm and 12am. Roadblocks now account for more than 72% of arrests, up from just over 50% in 2023. Most offenders fall in the 25–44 age group, with males making up 94–96% of arrests.

SA Named Top Wildlife Holiday Destination
South Africa has been ranked the world's second most sought after destination for wildlife holidays in a new global survey by adventure travel company Explore.The survey of more than 2 400 people across 12 countries found that South Africa's Big Five, national parks, African penguins and whale watching experiences continue to attract travellers from around the world.The report also found that interest in wildlife holidays is growing, with online searches increasing significantly over the past year, reinforcing South Africa's appeal as a leading nature tourism destination.

Donated Hockey Kits Boost Young Players
Young hockey players in Soweto are set to benefit from a generous donation of sports equipment sent from England to a Johannesburg-based charity Play It Forward. More than 18 boxes filled with hockey kits and sports gear were donated from the Sevenoaks Hockey Club in Kent. Despite months of customs delays, they remained determined to get the equipment to South Africa, with the shipment finally arriving last week. Most of the donated gear will be given to the Soweto-based Pandas Hockey Club, which uses sport to develop young players and build leadership skills. Play It Forward says the donation will also benefit other young athletes through its community outreach programmes.

Costing between 2,000 and 4,000 dollars, the vehicles are now widely used to transport passengers and goods. They take over routes once served by buses while also reducing air pollution on Cuba's streets.
