The Mpumalanga Department of Education has officially launched its 2025 Winter Vacation Classes programme, a targeted academic intervention initiative designed to uplift and support underperforming schools across the province.

A total of 23000 learners from schools that recorded less than 80% pass rate in the 2024 National Senior Certificate examinations are currently enrolled in the programme

The strategic initiative aims to equip learners with the knowledge and academic support needed to improve their performance ahead of the critical final examinations later this year.

The programme which runs during the school holiday period is set to conclude on the 18th of July.

Russian University introduces isiZulu to its language curriculum

In a landmark move aimed at strengthening cultural and educational ties between Russia and South Africa, a prominent Russian university has officially introduced isiZulu as part of its language curriculum.

The initiative marks the first time the Nguni language — spoken by over 12 million people in South Africa — is being taught in a Russian institution of higher learning.

The programme, launched earlier this year, is hosted by the Institute of Asian and African Studies at Lomonosov Moscow State University, one of Russia’s most prestigious academic institutions.
