Redhill teen swims eight Midmar Miles for Cansa
Story 3
Sixteen-year-old Redhill School learner Esmé Kruger has completed the Midmar Charity 8-Mile Challenge, swimming four Midmar Miles a day over two days in support of Cansa.
The Grade 11 pupil turned personal loss into purpose after cancer claimed three of her grandparents and her father was diagnosed with stage one melanoma last year. She says the experience gave her swimming new meaning.
Balancing early-morning training with school and fundraising, Kruger says she focused on the cause rather than the competition. She calls the challenge a tribute to her family and plans to continue taking part in charity swims.
