Redhill teen swims eight Midmar Miles for Cansa
Story 1
Sixteen-year-old Redhill School learner Esmé Kruger has completed the Midmar Charity 8-Mile Challenge, swimming four Midmar Miles a day over two days in support of Cansa.
The Grade 11 pupil turned personal loss into purpose after cancer claimed three of her grandparents and her father was diagnosed with stage one melanoma last year. She says the experience gave her swimming new meaning.
Balancing early-morning training with school and fundraising, Kruger says she focused on the cause rather than the competition. She calls the challenge a tribute to her family and plans to continue taking part in charity swims.

Seagrass Restoration Shows Success in Malaysia
Teaser / Tailpiece story
Seagrass meadows at the Merambong Shoal are thriving again, thanks to a decade-long restoration project. Researchers from the University of Putra Malaysia transplanted seedlings of multiple species between 2015 and 2025, with survival rates reaching 66 percent.
The restored meadow is now attracting a wide variety of marine life, and nine additional seagrass species have naturally recolonized the area. Experts say using a mix of species helped stabilize the ecosystem and boost resilience, offering a model for tropical seagrass recovery.
(This is good news because healthy seagrass supports marine life and protects the coastline.
