UK to Cover Travel Costs for Young Cancer Patients
Teaser / Tailpiece story
The UK government will now cover travel costs for families of children and young adults undergoing cancer treatment in England, with a new 10 million pounds-a-year (about R220 million) package reimbursing journeys for patients up to age 24.
Health Secretary Wes Streeting says the plan ensures families won’t go out of pocket, regardless of income, while their child receives care.
Part of a broader effort to improve child cancer treatment, including faster diagnoses and better access to clinical trials, the support will help families facing long trips to one of 13 specialist centres, easing the travel burden.
