Dis-Chem Ride for Sight route adjusted for safety

The Dis-Chem Ride for Sight will take place this Sunday, February 15, at Boksburg City Stadium. The long route has been increased from 116 km to 125 km after road damage was discovered near the N3 highway.
Race director Linsay Engelbrecht says safety is the priority, ensuring all participants, including cyclists with visual impairments and other disabilities, can ride in a secure and professionally managed environment.
The event raises awareness and funds for sight-related causes while bringing the community together.

President Ramaphosa opens Nelson Mandela Rules Training Academy

President Cyril Ramaphosa has opened the Nelson Mandela Rules Training Academy at the Drakenstein Correctional Centre in the Western Cape, marking the 36th anniversary of Nelson Mandela’s release in 1990.
The academy is the first in Africa and will train correctional officials on how to apply the Nelson Mandela Rules, the international standards for the humane treatment of prisoners, while supporting rehabilitation and reintegration programmes.
Ramaphosa said the centre reflects Mandela’s values of justice and dignity, and will help strengthen officials’ ability to reduce re-offending.

Ekurhuleni residents invited to nominate local heroes

The Martins Seed Foundation is inviting Ekurhuleni residents to nominate individuals and organisations making a positive impact for the Lerato Martins Community Development Awards. The awards, in honour of the late Lerato Martins, daughter of foundation founder Floyd Martins, will be held on August 8 at Wattville Day Care Centre.
The initiative recognises residents who uplift their communities and encourages continued service. Nominations open on February 20.
