SA young scientists recognised at Taiwan International Science Fair

Two South African learners, Karabo Mpuru from Limpopo and Yu-Yao Chen from the Western Cape, have won third prizes at the Taiwan International Science Fair.
Mpuru was recognised for her project, 'Finding the Constant Difference in an Arithmetic Sequence', while Chen received her award for a project titled 'Using Macroalgae-Infused Bioink to Improve Oxygen Delivery in 3D-Bio-printed Wound Scaffolds'.
They competed against 667 learners from 32 countries.
Eskom Expo executive director Parthy Chetty praised the young scientists and those who supported them.

Father-daughter duo to cycle 1 526 km for charity

Father and daughter Pierre and Simone du Preez will cycle 1 526 km from Germiston to Sea Point starting 21-February to raise funds for the Avril Elizabeth Home.
Their route passes through major towns from Germiston to Sea Point, ending on March 4.
They have secured support from family, friends, colleagues, and companies, with donations pledged per kilometre or per stage of the ride.
The fundraising initiative follows the home’s previous cycling event hosted by Capri Wheelers in November 2025.
Organisers hope the ride inspires more people to support the Avril Elizabeth Home.

University of Pretoria professor Vukosi Marivate has been appointed to the UN’s Independent International Scientific Panel on Artificial Intelligence.
He joins 40 experts from around the world, chosen for their work in AI and related fields.
The UN Secretary-General recommended the experts for the panel.
The South African Government has congratulated Marivate for representing the country on this international scientific platform.
