South Africa’s first dedicated hip hop museum is set to open next year at Museum Afrika in Newtown.
The museum, led by Osmic Menoe, founder of the Back to the City Festival, will showcase the history of hip hop in South Africa and abroad.
Exhibits will include gold records, interactive listening stations, wax figures of local hip hop stars, and spaces for recording and workshops.
The museum will provide young people with opportunities to learn about the culture and connect with the creative industry in Newtown.

Hike With Me will lead a 23,000km peace march from Cape Agulhas to Magadan in Russia, crossing 18 countries over two years.
The initiative will carry a white flag as a symbol of peace, equality, and unity, inviting South Africans and international participants to join at any stage.
The route has been carefully planned for walkability, safety, and access to essentials, with diplomatic support from embassies along the way.
The march will be documented live online, with global media coverage, aiming to inspire a worldwide movement promoting empathy and understanding.

A UK-based engineer has developed a flat-pack, hand-crank washing machine to help communities in remote and developing regions.
The machine reduces manual labour, saving time and water for users, mostly women and girls who spend hours washing clothes by hand.
Almost 500 machines have already been delivered to 13 countries, including Uganda, Mexico, Ghana, and Iraq. The design is simple, durable, and repairable locally, tailored for areas with limited infrastructure.
Reports indicate the project has already benefited tens of thousands of people and aims to expand its reach through partnerships with NGOs, UN agencies, and local communities.
Local production in India is expected to begin in 2026 to support wider distribution and training.
