A new learning centre for young people in Strandfontein has won the 2026 World Architecture Festival X Award in the Power and Justice category.
The 9Miles Learning Centre will provide learning rooms, quiet study areas, digital facilities, mentorship programmes and spaces for practical skills development.
The centre will also include a café for community use and a rooftop vegetable garden for teaching gardening and sustainability.
Construction is yet to begin, with the 9Miles Project seeking funding and sponsorship to bring the centre to the community.

Thousands of women are gearing up for the 33rd SPAR Women’s Challenge in Gqeberha.
The race will take place on 26 September, with 6,000 entry spots available.
Organisers are running activations at workplaces, universities, shopping centres and community organisations ahead of the event.
The first 6,000 entrants will receive a race T-shirt and goodie bag.
