About 50 women gathered in Fourways for a free Women’s Day self-defence class, learning practical techniques to help them respond to potentially dangerous situations.
The session, hosted by QuanWessels Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy and Tribe Martial Arts Foundation, covered ways to escape grabs, defend themselves on the ground and assess potentially threatening situations.
Participants also received basic medical training, including how to respond to serious injuries and heavy bleeding.

The newly expanded Edge Day Hospital in Gqeberha has officially opened, adding capacity for specialised medical procedures through a partnership between the public and private sectors.
The facility, which was first built in 2021, includes four theatres and 23 beds and is expected to help address gaps in specialised care and reduce patient backlogs.

Pet food donation supports Germiston SPCA

The Germiston and Bedfordview SPCA has received a pet food donation from Crusaders South Africa Joburg Charter, with contributions collected from members across the country.
The donation forms part of the organisation’s community outreach programme and will help support animals in the SPCA’s care.
