Free English Programme Helps Teens Build Practical Skills
Teaser / Tailpiece story
A Brown University student has spent his summer helping teenagers in Providence, Rhode Island, learn English through a free four week programme at the Providence Public Library.
Justin Dunn took the lessons beyond traditional classroom activities, giving learners opportunities to practise English in real life, including speaking to a cashier at a local market.
The teenagers also learnt how to create CVs and describe their education, skills and experience, helping them prepare for future job opportunities.
Dunn is one of 40 Brown University students working with nonprofit organisations in Providence through the university’s summer fellowship programme.
