254 Learners Compete in National Debate

254 learners from 25 schools across all nine provinces have competed in the Youth4SaferSA National Debate Championship.
The Free State took first place, followed by North West and KwaZulu-Natal.
Learners researched issues, built arguments and debated ideas around the future of South African education.
The Safer South Africa Foundation says the competition helps learners develop research, public speaking and critical-thinking skills.

Miss Earth SA, Knights Host Charity Golf Day

Miss Earth South Africa and the Knights will host a charity golf day at Glenvista Country Club on October 27, bringing golfers and sponsors together to support environmental and community initiatives.
The event will also raise funds through an auction and raffles, while businesses can sponsor a hole for R6,000.
The partnership links the Knights’ 40th anniversary celebrations with Miss Earth South Africa’s environmental work.

World Vision Trains Teachers, Parents in Literacy

Humanitarian Organisation, World Vision says its Unlock Literacy programme trained 21-thousand teachers and 200-thousand parents across 36 countries last year.
In Uganda, reading comprehension among Grade Three learners in the programme jumped from 20 percent to 75 percent between 2020 and 2024.
Indonesia also recorded gains, with the number of children reading with comprehension doubling to 64 percent.
World Vision says teacher training, parent support and community reading programmes are helping sustain those gains.
