Centurion resident Douglas Snyman is set to receive his own art studio after one of his paintings raised more than R20,000 at a fundraiser in Australia.
Snyman, who turns 70 next month, had found a home at Moeggesukkel after a difficult period in his life, where the organisation provides accommodation, food and opportunities to help people rebuild their lives.
He wanted to donate R12,000 from the painting sale to thank the organisation for its support.
Instead, Moeggesukkel decided to use the money to build him a dedicated space where he can continue painting.

Breadline Africa team members Jaco de Kock and Gail Davids will each run 23.7 kilometres to raise R48,000 for a new classroom at Khanyisa Educare Centre in Khayelitsha.
The centre currently cares for 81 children despite having space for only 60.
Some children are still being taught in container classrooms that do not meet the fire safety requirements needed for full registration.
The new classroom would help reduce overcrowding and provide children with a safer space to learn and play.

Boodhram will represent MiDesk Global at the event, which is expected to bring together 10,000 young people from 191 countries.
MiDesk is a wheeled schoolbag that converts into a desk and chair, with a solar powered light and USB charging.
The idea started as a school science project after Boodhram saw children struggling to learn without proper desks.
