Tshwane Youth Get Firefighting Training Opportunities

Young people in Tshwane are being given a chance to train for careers in firefighting through the City’s Emergency Services Learnership Programme.
The City of Tshwane, in partnership with the Local Government Sector Education and Training Authority and Ithuba Recruitment, is conducting the selection process this month.
Prospective candidates will undergo a 2.4-kilometre fitness run, a physical ability test and interviews as part of the selection process.

Comrades Marathon Raises More Than R7m

The 2026 Comrades Marathon has raised more than R7.1 million for six charities through its charity drive.
The Comrades Marathon Association handed over more than seven million rand in Durban, with the funds shared among six charities supporting children, families and communities.
Runners who took part in the Race4Charity campaign raised more than R4.5 million, with Mahesh Ratanjee the top fundraiser at R304,000 for Community Chest Durban and Pietermaritzburg.
Ratanjee has topped the Race4Charity fundraising list for three consecutive years, while the CMA is now encouraging more runners to support the charity drive.

SA20 Launches Schools Cricket Derby Series

The SA20 has launched its Schools Derby Series, bringing rival school cricket teams together in a competition running from September to mid-March.
The series was launched earlier this week, in Randburg, with SA20 Commissioner Graeme Smith, cricket officials and professional players attending.
The SA20 school programme involved 561 schools across 15 regions last year, including more than 230 girls’ schools.
The programme also included under-19 girls’ camps.
The Derby Series forms part of the SA20’s effort to develop young players and strengthen the pathway from school cricket to professional cricket.
