Gauteng Education MEC to announce progress on 2026 Grade 1 and 8 admissions

The Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane will on Sunday give an update on the online admissions placements for Grades 1 and 8 learners for the 2026 academic year.

The placement period will officially begin on Thursday the 16th of October, when placement offers will be sent to parents and guardians who have completed their applications.

Online applications for both grades closed at the end of August.

Higher Education and Training Deputy Minister Nomusa Dube-Ncube, in partnership the University of Johannesburg’s School of Tourism and Hospitality, and the Youth Employment Service, has launched a new internship programme aimed at empowering young South Africans in the hospitality sector.

The initiative seeks to open pathways to skills training, internships, and job opportunities for young people in the sector.

The Minister highlighted government’s role in creating an enabling environment for youth employment through investment in infrastructure and supporting skills development.

PIC commits R1.35 billion to boost new mining projects in Africa

The largest asset manager in Africa with over R3 trillion in assets under management said on Wednesday that this move was aimed at boosting exploration, supporting the just energy transition, and driving inclusive economic growth.

The PIC said its latest allocation reinforces its commitment to responsible and sustainable investing, while positioning South Africa as a leader in the global shift toward green energy and critical mineral supply chains.
