13th annual Joburg Indaba explores the future of SA’s Mining sector
The 13th annual Joburg Indaba took place in Sandton this week, bringing together a cross-section of leaders, investors, policymakers, and industry experts to deliberate on the future of South Africa’s mining sector.

The event placed a strong emphasis on innovation and investment growth amid calls for greater collaboration between government and the private sector to unlock the full potential of South Africa’s vast mineral resources.

CSIR Marks 80 years of innovation
South Africa’s premier science and innovation body, the CSIR institution in partnership with the Global Sustainable Technology and Innovation Community hosted its 9th Biennial Conference in Pretoria this week, in celebration of 80 years of impact.

The event took place under the theme "Science, Technology and Innovation for a Sustainable Future," and marks G-STIC's first-ever conference on African soil, bringing global and local experts together to accelerate progress on the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.

MEC Chiloane to give an update on the 2026 Grade 1 and 8 school admissions
The Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane will on Sunday give an update on the online admissions placements for Grades 1 and 8 learners for the 2026 academic year.

The placement period will officially begin on Thursday the 16th of October, when placement offers will be sent to parents and guardians who have completed their applications.

Online applications for both grades closed at the end of August.

Airlink announces major fleet expansion
SA Airlink is in the process of procuring ten new second-generation Embraer E2-195 jet aircraft, in a bid to expand its airline service domestically and across the continent.

The airline is procuring the jets through US-based aviation leasing company Azorra, which specialises in purchasing and leasing both new and pre-owned aircraft to airlines across the world.
The Senior Vice President at Embrayer, Stephan Hanneman, was in Brazil for the formal handover of the aircraft.
