Gauteng Education launches smart classrooms to boost digital learning

The Gauteng Department of Education has to date introduced a total of 8,596 smart classrooms, as part of an initiative that aims to transform classrooms into digital learning spaces with top of the range information communications technology.
The classrooms are prioritised for township secondary schools and identified primary schools in line with the GDE's Information and Communication Technology Strategy.
According to the department, full ICT schools receive smart classrooms from Grade 7 to 12, while township fee- and no fee-paying schools receive the classrooms from Grades 10 to 12, depending on classroom infrastructure readiness.

The Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Gayton McKenzie says his department will provide funds to refurbish the Mmabatho stadium in the North West Province.
McKenzie conducted an oversight visit to different facilities in Mahikeng in the province earlier this week.
He says the stadium, which previously hosted local soccer league games, has the potential to host prominent sporting events.
