JOburg hostels receive WiFi
Story 1
Johannesburg hostels are set to receive free international WiFi as part of the Gauteng Network’s digital transformation drive.
The Gauteng Department of e-Government has begun consultations with hostel representatives to finalise rollout plans across several areas, including Diepkloof, Alexandra, and Orlando West.
The initiative forms part of a R1.5-billion investment to modernise townships, informal settlements, and hostels.
Officials say the project will improve access to education, job opportunities, and online services.
The rollout, expected to start this month and conclude by December, aims to make internet access a basic necessity for all residents.

Kolisi Foundation delivers multi‑purpose netball court in the Eastern Cape
Story 3
The Kolisi Foundation has marked another milestone by delivering a multi‑purpose netball court in Emsengeni in the Eastern Cape and a full‑size artificial rugby‑soccer pitch in Isaac Booi, bringing quality sports facilities closer to home for local children.
The multi-purpose court will now host netball, basketball, and a variety of physical education programmes, giving students the chance to experience a wider range of sports without leaving their school grounds.
Similarly, the rugby and soccer pitch will provide a safe, professional-grade surface for games, practices, and tournaments, helping nurture talent right in the heart of the community.
For years, young athletes in the area had to travel long distances to reach proper grounds, a gap the foundation’s latest hand‑over now fills.
