Entries open for Jozi My Jozi Walk the Talk 2026

Entries are open for the Jozi My Jozi Walk the Talk 2026, which takes place on 26 July 2026 in the Johannesburg CBD.
Participants will walk 5km, 8km, or 15km routes starting and finishing at Ellis Park as part of efforts to explore and support the inner city.
Those taking part in the walk will have access to public transport through Gautrain and PRASA, and will be able to purchase optional vouchers to support homeless services in the city.
Registrations close on 22 July 2026, and all proceeds will go towards urban renewal and community programmes.

The Tshwane University of Technology and the City of Tshwane have launched the 8th Tshwane Varsity Hackathon at the Soshanguve South Campus.
Students, lecturers and industry partners are working together to develop digital solutions for issues such as service delivery, unemployment and city infrastructure.
Teams are building and testing prototypes that could be developed into startups or practical tools for communities.
The programme also focuses on training students in innovation, teamwork and problem-solving skills.

UWC alumni head to the US to showcase their transport app, Uthutho

Two University of the Western Cape alumni will travel to the US after winning this year’s Red Bull Basement South Africa title with their transport app, Uthutho.
According to software developers Shaqeel Less and Makhi Mangxola, the artificial intelligence and GPS-powered platform gives commuters real-time route, fare and travel updates to make public transport easier and safer.
The app also allows school transport operators to list their services.
They will also compete at the global finals in San Francisco in June.

The South African Football Association, led by Commercial and Marketing Manager Errol Madlala, has launched the #BafanaFriday campaign to build support for the national men’s football team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The initiative calls on supporters in South Africa and abroad to wear green and gold every Friday as Bafana Bafana prepare for the tournament in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
The campaign builds on earlier national movements such as Football Fridays and Fly the Flag Fridays introduced during the 2010 FIFA World Cup build-up.
Madlala says the weekly activation is aimed at strengthening support, unity and national pride around the team’s World Cup campaign:
