CANSA Relay For Life returns to East Rand

The CANSA Relay For Life East Rand took place in Bartlett on Friday evening, bringing together cancer survivors, caregivers, families and community members in support of cancer awareness and care. The event was hosted at Woodlands International College as part of CANSA’s 95th anniversary celebrations.
The programme included survivor and caregiver walks, a luminaria ceremony and community activities aimed at honouring those affected by cancer while raising support for ongoing services.
Organisers say funds raised help CANSA provide screening, counselling, support groups and home based care to people affected by cancer across South Africa.

South African learners shine on world public speaking stage

South African pupils delivered strong performances at the World Individual Debating and Public Speaking Championships in Bristol, England, competing in categories including debate, impromptu speaking and persuasive speaking.
Learners from across the country reached semi finals and finals, with South Africa securing wins in debate and persuasive speaking.
Team manager Shaun McCabe says the learners continue to prove they can compete with the best young speakers in the world despite financial challenges affecting participation.

Endurance walk from Joburg to Cape Town raises hope and unity

Members of the Abahambi Be Tshwane Foundation have started a 1 500 kilometre endurance walk from Johannesburg to Cape Town to raise awareness for community upliftment and social support initiatives. The journey began on 4 May and will end on 30 May, passing through multiple towns across several provinces.
The group, made up of participants from areas including Centurion, Mamelodi and Soshanguve, is completing the walk in 24 planned stages of more than 60 kilometres each day. Organisers say the initiative promotes unity, resilience and collective action for social change.
The foundation says the campaign is also aimed at encouraging donations and partnerships to support vulnerable communities.

Elite runner Rachel Entrekin has made history after becoming the first woman to win the 250 mile Cocodona ultramarathon outright in Arizona.
She completed the demanding course in a record time of 56 hours, 9 minutes and 48 seconds, finishing ahead of the entire field of men and women.
The race, which features extreme desert terrain and major elevation gains, tested athletes over more than two days of continuous running and limited rest.
