Ten women in Alexandra have received a year’s supply of sanitary pads through an initiative by Elevate Her Africa, aimed at tackling period poverty and easing the financial pressure of monthly sanitary costs. The programme ensures recipients do not have to worry about purchasing pads for an entire year.
The organisation says the approach allows women to redirect limited household income towards other essentials such as food and basic needs, while also reducing the impact of the so called pink tax.
