Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi addressed more than 2,600 young people who completed training in welding, plumbing, carpentry, building and other technical trades in Gauteng today.
The learners received certificates after finishing a provincial skills development programme aimed at boosting practical workplace skills.
The initiative is designed to support youth employment while also helping with the repair and maintenance of public infrastructure such as schools and hospitals across the province.

Girls on Fire camp empowers 32 young women in Cape Town

Thirty two young women from Ocean View in the Western Cape have begun a year long mentorship journey through the Girls on Fire programme run by the GCC Foundation.
The group recently took part in a three day Becoming Camp at Soetwater Environmental Centre focused on identity, self-worth and personal development.
The programme is fully sponsored by the GCC Foundation, meaning participants attend at no cost, and combines structured workshops with ongoing mentorship covering life skills, career guidance and personal growth over twelve months.
Organisers say the initiative aims to help young women build confidence and resilience while shaping positive life choices.

Three men praised for caring for injured dog in Springs

Three men from the Mimosa Informal Settlement have been praised after staying with an injured dog through a cold, rainy night near Eloff in Johannesburg after it was hit by a vehicle along the R555. The men alerted the Springs SPCA and remained with the animal until help arrived, even covering it to keep it warm.
The dog, described as a gentle giant, is now receiving treatment at a veterinary clinic while its injuries are assessed.
The SPCA says the act highlights compassion within communities and the importance of looking out for vulnerable animals.
