“Walk Her Story” campaign launched

Footprints Foundation and FootGolf South Africa have launched the “Walk Her Story” campaign.
The 24-month programme will run across all nine provinces and uses community walks, survivor storytelling sessions, and volunteer teams to address gender-based violence.
Business and community leaders will sign pledges committing their organisations to preventing gender-based violence, while partners support education and outreach programmes.
FootGolf South Africa will use its national sport network to host events and expand the campaign across schools and communities.

SA learners shine at World Debating Champs in England

South African learners achieved strong results at the World Individual Debating and Public Speaking Championships in England.
The team competed against students from around the world in debate, impromptu speaking, interpretive reading, persuasive speaking and after-dinner speaking.
Jemma Trezling won the debate category, while Samuel Clarke won persuasive speaking.
Several other South African learners reached semi-final and final rounds across different categories.
The team was selected through South Africa’s national debating and public speaking championships, which serve as the qualification pathway for the international competition.

SA entrepreneur develops PatchPal to fix potholes in minutes

South African entrepreneur Jaraad Hassim has developed PatchPal, a pothole repair system designed to fix road damage in under ten minutes.
The product uses a cold-mix material that is placed into potholes and compacted by passing traffic, allowing quick road repairs without large construction crews.
The system is being used in parts of Southern Africa and has attracted interest from municipalities, contractors and communities looking for faster road maintenance solutions.
PatchPal was developed in response to widespread pothole damage affecting roads across South Africa.

The one-month countdown to the 2026 World Cup gets under way today.
A record 48 teams and millions of fans are set to descend on the United States, Canada and Mexico for the first ever World Cup co-hosted by three nations.
World football governing body FIFA has announced an increase in cash payments to participating countries, raising total distributions from about 12-billion to 14.4-billion-rand.
Each of the 48 teams will now receive about 41.4-million-rand for preparation costs, while qualifying bonuses have been increased to around 165-million-rand per team.
