The Curamus School for Autism recently held a community fundraiser where learners got hands-on experience shadowing waiters at a local restaurant.
Ten percent of all spending that evening was donated to the school to support initiatives like the feeding scheme and school governing body salaries.
Organiser Ansa Kotzé said the event aimed to raise awareness and acceptance of autism, highlighting the abilities of learners rather than their disabilities.
She added that one of the most rewarding moments was seeing students step out of their comfort zones and fully enjoy the experience.

The South African women’s ice hockey team, the Rhinos, brought home a bronze medal from Tallinn, Estonia after a strong tournament. They defeated Israel 3-0, with Inge Albertyn scoring twice, Michayla Venter adding another, and Soné Geldenhuys stopping 95% of shots in goal. Veronica Lechtanski was named MVP.
Head Coach Jean-Michel praised the squad’s energy, attacking play, and solid defence.

The Gauteng Department of Health has intensified efforts to promote healthier lifestyles across parts of Pretoria through its #AsibeHealthyGP campaign.
The initiative focuses on prevention and early detection of conditions such as hypertension and diabetes, with outreach teams visiting communities including Mamelodi and Winterveldt.
Gauteng Health MEC Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko says the campaign promotes healthier diets, increased physical activity and routine health screenings.
