Tshwane University of Technology’s Faculty of Engineering teamed up with the Rapid Product Development Association of South Africa to bridge the gap between higher education and industry.
On 26 June, the Pretoria event brought together leaders, researchers and students to discuss aligning academic research with manufacturing needs and sustainability goals.
Speakers highlighted the role of technologies like 3D printing in transforming South Africa’s manufacturing sector and stressed the importance of early collaboration between universities and industry.
The day ended with a call to remove barriers and build strong partnerships to drive innovation and economic growth.

Retreat Teen Climbs for Autism and Mental Health Awareness

Aidan Martin, an 18-year-old from Retreat, reached Everest Base Camp earlier this year to raise awareness for autism and mental health.
Motivated by the challenges faced by neurodivergent children in his own family and community, Aidan joined a special trek in April during Autism Awareness Month.
He says the journey was physically and emotionally tough, but he kept going with the mantra, one breath, one step at a time.
Aidan hopes his story helps break the stigma and reminds others that children with autism deserve love, respect and inclusion.

Serendipity Strings Celebrate Women’s Day with Candlelight Tribute

In celebration of South Africa’s National Women’s Day, Serendipity Strings, an all-female string quartet from Pretoria, will perform a special Candlelight concert at NH Johannesburg Sandton on 9 August.
The group will present Candlelight Queen versus ABBA featuring hits like Dancing Queen, Waterloo, Bohemian Rhapsody and Don’t Stop Me Now.
Candlelight concerts are known worldwide for their intimate, candlelit settings and aim to bring classical music to new audiences.
This performance will honour not only the music of Queen and ABBA but also the strength and talent of women in music, fitting the spirit of National Women’s Day.
