Junior Proteas Gear Up for Under-19 World Cup

South Africa’s Junior Proteas are set to showcase their talent at the ICC Men’s Under-19 World Cup, starting 16 January in Windhoek. Captain Muhammad Bulbulia leads the squad, which will face Afghanistan, West Indies and Tanzania in Group D.The team recently completed a Youth ODI series against India, sharpening skills and building confidence.
Head coach Malibongwe Maketa says the team has focused on training and match preparation to strengthen performance ahead of the tournament:

Extended Water Outages Expected

Residents in parts of Johannesburg may face water interruptions lasting seven days or more after the third phase of Rand Water’s maintenance plan began earlier this week and concluded on Thursday. Although the maintenance was scheduled for 54 hours, Rand Water has cautioned that system recovery may take much longer, leading to prolonged outages. Areas expected to be affected include Johannesburg’s western suburbs, such as Fleurhof, Doornkop, and parts of Soweto.

Melville Koppies Reopens

Guided hikes, heritage trails and storytelling sessions have returned to the Melville Koppies Nature Reserve and Heritage Site following its reopening after the festive season.
The Koppies are open on Sundays between 08:00 and 11:30. Visitors can enjoy a range of activities, including a 5km self-paced hike, a self-guided heritage trail, or exploring the reserve using available maps. Guided activities include 90-minute tours on Sundays at 08:00, an 8km group hike held on the last Sunday of each month, and a children’s storytelling session on the second Sunday of every month.

A man in France has reportedly powered his home for eight years using a DIY energy system made from more than 1,000 recycled laptop batteries. Built from electronic waste, the system has run continuously without needing a single battery replacement and has allowed him to live independently of the electrical grid.The project began in November 2016, when creator, Glubux,the creator started sharing his plans with the Second Life Storage community. His goal was to power his home off-grid using a combination of solar panels and recycled laptop batteries.
