The spirit of new beginnings filled Ernest Ullmann Park on January 10 as runners of all ages and fitness levels came together for the weekly Morningside parkrun.With the new year underway, the event attracted both regulars and first-timers. Walkers, joggers, and seasoned runners shared the same route, reinforcing parkrun’s focus on inclusivity rather than competition, and offering a welcoming, pressure-free space to rediscover a love for running or begin a fitness journey.

South African doctors have reached a new medical milestone with the successful implantation of the country’s first leadless pacemaker. The procedure was performed in late November at Netcare Unitas Hospital in Centurion. Cardiologist Dr Jean Vorster and electro physiologist Dr Jane Moses implanted the AVEIR™ VR device, which differs from traditional pacemakers by being placed entirely inside the lower right ventricle of the heart. The micro-technology measures just 38mm, monitors electrical impulses and helps regulate heart rhythm

South Africa has been named Africa’s leading safari destination in a new survey by SafariBookings.The country has more parks in the continent’s Top 50 than any other nation, with 12 parks listed ahead of Kenya and Tanzania. The rankings are based on more than 2,600 reviews from travelers and industry experts worldwide.Highlights include the Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve in fourth place, while the Kruger National Park received high rankings for its size, wildlife diversity and accessibility.
