The Redhill Early Learning Centre in Midrand has been awarded Best Use of Natural Light at the World Architecture Festival 2025.
The centre was designed by Hubo Studio in close collaboration with the children, teachers, and leadership team at Redhill School.
The centre stands out for its warm, light-filled spaces that nurture curiosity, creativity, and play.
Hube Studio Founder Asher Marcus says their World Architecture Festival recognition adds to several awards the studio received this year, including Educational Build of the Year at the SCAPE Awards

Afrika Tikkun and the MTN SA open Digital Skills Hub

Afrika Tikkun and the MTN SA Foundation opened a Digital Skills Hub in Diepsloot, Johannesburg.
The hub features 55 digital workstations and aims to train township youth in digital literacy, coding, data analytics, digital marketing, and workplace skills.
In the past three months, the programme enrolled over 600 unemployed young people.
Through this initiative, the organisations seek to reduce youth unemployment and equip participants for jobs in South Africa’s evolving digital economy.

EC learner raises money to help charity home

A Kingswood College matric learner in the Eastern Cape has raised 35-thousand-rand to help renovate a children’s home in Makhanda.
According to News24, Joanna du Toit collected the money through her small flower business and used it to fix ceilings, replace doors and windows, repaint the Home of Joy, and buy Christmas gifts for the children.
Du Toit says she plans to continue supporting the home next year while studying at Stellenbosch University.

South African swimming star Chad le Clos will tackle the 8-Mile Charity Challenge at the aQuellé Midmar Mile in February 2026, to support swimmers raising money for for his charity.
The event runs from 5-8 February, with charity events on the first two days and main events on the last two.
The 2012 Olympic champion says he is looking forward to trading pool time for open water to support a good cause.
