South Africa to host Africa’s top BMX riders

South Africa will welcome Africa’s top BMX racing riders when the 2026 African Continental Championships take place in Gauteng.
The championships will be held on November 29 at Cradle BMX Club in Kromdraai, Krugersdorp, with riders from across the continent competing for African championship titles.
Competitors will range from six year olds to elite international riders, while local fans will get the chance to support Team South Africa on home soil.

R2.9 billion internship programme to create 20,000 opportunities

The Department of Higher Education and Training and Services SETA have launched a R2.9 billion programme to place 20,000 unemployed university and TVET college graduates in 24 month internships.
The programme will provide workplace experience, mentorship and practical skills, with around 3,000 employers expected to participate nationwide.
Each intern will also receive a laptop to support their workplace learning.

16 year old dancer wins silver for South Africa

Sixteen year old Solima Mathiso has won a silver medal in the Junior Classical Division of an international ballet competition held in Cape Town.
He also received a scholarship for a fully sponsored winter intensive at the European School of Ballet in Amsterdam in 2027.
The achievement comes just days after he returned from a five week intensive programme at the Houston Ballet Academy in the United States.

California community rallies around young basketball fan

Hundreds of people in California turned up to play basketball for a three year old boy after his mother posted on the Nextdoor app asking if anyone would help make his birthday special.
The boy has spent much of his life in and out of hospital because of a rare chromosome disorder and has not had many opportunities to make friends.
Among those who responded was the Tamalpais High School basketball team, giving the young fan a birthday surrounded by people sharing his love of the game.
