Johannesburg City Library reopens following major structural upgrades

The Johannesburg City Library has fully reopened having operated at partial capacity in the last few months.

Structural renovations have also been carried out in the 90-year-old building, including the installation of a fire prevention system and improved air-conditioning.

A reopening ceremony was held on Saturday the 9th of August and included the unveiling of two heritage plaques and a celebration of the library's 90th anniversary.

Cape Town based Actor Siv Ngesi is on a mission to end inaccessibility to sanitary products, in impoverished communities.

The actor has opened a pad-producing factory to give women in under-resourced communities access to affordable sanitary products, promoting menstrual health awareness, while restoring dignity to those who are most in need.
Ngesi says he hopes to manufacture almost 200 000 pads daily through his expansion plans.

SA to host Elephant Conservation Summit

The Deputy Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment Narend Singh, will lead the Southern African Elephant Indaba on the12th and 13th of August, at the Bonamanzi Game Reserve in KwaZulu-Natal.

The Indaba will bring together government, conservation experts, community leaders and partner organisations to discuss the future of elephant conservation in South Africa.

Discussions will focus on exploring sustainable tourism and economic opportunities linked to elephant conservation and strengthening anti-poaching strategies.

SA Canoeist claims the country’s first medal in Chengdu

Canoest Hamish Lovemore has bagged South Africa’s first medal at the World Games in Chengdu in China on Saturday.

The Olympian was the fastest qualifier heading into the final of the men’s short-distance K1 canoeing.

This year’s edition of The World Games is being held from the 7th to the17th of August with 110 countries competing at the Games totalling around 5,000 athletes.

Team South Africa is represented by a squad of 20 athletes across eight sports.
