The Santa Shoebox Project is marking its 20th anniversary with a call for beneficiary applications from schools and early childhood development centres across the Western Cape.

The initiative has delivered more than 1.3 million personalised shoeboxes to children in need across South Africa, over the past two decades.

The boxes are packed with essential items, including stationery, sanitary products, treats and a toy, offering a measure of dignity and support to children living below the poverty line.

The Chief executive officer at the Santa Shoebox Project Deb Zelezniak, says the project continues to play a critical role in addressing educational inequality, particularly in under-resourced communities.

Record participation expected at Two Oceans Marathon

The City of Cape Town says this weekend’s Two Oceans Marathon is set to host over 30-thousand runners across its flagship events.

Over 4,500 international runners from nearly 100 countries will take part in the race, boosting the local tourism economy.

The City says a comprehensive traffic management plan will be in place to ensure the safety of participants and minimise disruption, while appealing to the public to plan ahead and allow extra travel time.

The marathon weekend is estimated to contribute up to R1.5 billion to the local GDP.
