Sandton-based NGO Elevate Her Africa has launched a campaign to collect 36,000 sanitary packs for 2,000 women and girls over the next year.
The organisation is calling on businesses, schools, churches and individuals to donate sanitary products, sponsor the campaign or organise collection drives.
Founder Marie Joelle Kasongo was inspired to start the campaign after hearing about the challenges some women face in accessing sanitary products.
The campaign aims to provide women and girls in local communities with regular access to menstrual products for a year.

FoodForward SA is expanding its Mother and Child Nutrition Programme to 70 more mothers, young children and families in in Cape Town.
The programme, run with the City of Cape Town Health Department, provides nutrition education, growth monitoring and monthly food parcels.
It focuses on the first 1,000 days of a child’s life and aims to address malnutrition and food insecurity.
FoodForward SA says 535 patients have so far completed the full nutrition programme.

Almost 500 university gamers are competing in qualification rounds for the Varsity Esports Split 2 Finals.
The finals will take place at the University of Pretoria on 2 and 3 October, featuring EA FC 26, Rocket League and Valorant.
The qualifying teams will compete for a place in the rAge Grand Finals in November.
The winners will receive 200-thousand rand, with a further 90-thousand rand available to top players and teams.
