Students Turn PR Assignment Into Food Drive For Children

Six Public Relations students from Boston Media House have raised R6,500 and collected more than 200 cans of food for Hearts of Hope in Wendywood.
The two-month Hearts2Hope campaign was created as part of their PR assignment and included campus activations, social media campaigns and a raffle.
Hearts of Hope provides a safe home for 52 orphaned and vulnerable children.
The students also received support from businesses that donated food, prizes and other items to the campaign.

Thongwana High Gets Container Library With Over 4,000 Books

Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube handed over a container library to Thongwana High School on Tuesday, stocked with more than 4,000 books.
The library is the first of its kind in the area and was provided to mark National Book Week and International Literacy Day, which was observed on Tuesday.
Thongwana High has more than 1,000 matric learners and achieved a 96.7% matric pass rate in the 2025 National Senior Certificate exams.
The new library will give learners greater access to reading material and support literacy at the school.

The Deaf Federation of South Africa held its 12th annual silent walk in Cape Town on Saturday to raise awareness about the experiences of deaf people.
Hundreds of people took part in the 5km route between Newlands and Rondebosch, with hearing participants wearing earplugs during the walk.
The event aims to build understanding between deaf and hearing people and highlight the importance of accessibility and inclusion.
